PROJECT DETAILS
Every month I have challenged myself to “drop” 3 creative social posts with three small but strict requirements:
I must post on the first of every month
The first post is a typographic play on the month
The chosen color of the month must be used in each post
This challenge has allowed me to be creative outside of the 9-5 and combine more than just digital art into my work as I have used mixed media for various “drops”.
December
December was my final month of my creative monthly drops. This challenge pushed me creatively and allowed me to dive into new and different mediums while also pushing me to develop work on a deadline. Having the boundary of color and 3 posts was helpful in my process but I still found this project to be incredibly challenging as it also felt so boundless. For my last three posts I created a dec gif, a public records lineup poster, and finalized a piece of my mama playing her guitar in a lino-cut style.
Though challenging, this project brought me so much joy and allowed me to come back to the roots of why I love design.
november
Saya Gray was a repeated artist I listened to almost every day in November and therefore I decided I should create some cover art for her tour. I played with some layer affects and wanted to bring in a disco and underground Berlin vibe.
october
October/Oktober really had to be orange - no other way around it. I went with a slightly spooky graffiti typographic style for the month.
For the second post I created a couple modules of a website for an adventure skate+surf expedition company. The final post was a match book I created a for a local bar and decided to pull out the water colors out for this one!
SEPTEMBER
September is a month of passion and excitement as it also happens to be birthday month which is why I chose this deep gutty red!
One of the posts below include a new spin on a favorite wine of mine (diving into the red theme called "campo viejo"). The other is poster Itzzz created from a photograph of my grandmother with her friends and I knew I had to do something with these cheeky lassies. I decided to turn it into an HOUSE party DJ set invitation - because why not?
AUGUST
For the month of August I chose to create a fun balloon shape for the month using illustrator’s bevel effect.
For my next post I created a cowboy logo for a local Mexican restaurant using a linocut and then photoshopping the final piece and mocking it up into the restaurant walls.
For my third and final post I created new branding for the popular coffee brand “costa” along with a small menu.
July
In the JULY typographic challenge I wanted to play with a retro sparkle feel, adding a little noise and grain to give it the 90s disco affect I was after.
On the next social post I wanted to create some merch for one of my favorite local restaurants “Red Hook Tavern”
JUNE
I went with the theme of summer in pink for this month’s challenge. New York summers are hot and sticky, which was all the inspiration I needed for my June Girl.
The next post was inspired by a friend’s recent song release. I asked if I could design his future Album cover and went with a brutalist style.
The next piece was inspired by recent events and I felt like it was time for visual infographic on plane etiquette, with a satirical twist.
